Can wine be shipped to all states?
No, there are several states that prohibit delivery of alcohol.  Our shopping cart will not allow you to check out with alcoholic items for states that do not allow delivery.  This list of states that prohibit delivery of wine can change occasionally, but today it includes states such as AL, AR, DE, GA, KS, KY, ME, MS, OK, PA, SD, TN, UT, and VT.  Certain delivery restrictions may apply in other states as well.

How can 800wine ship a bottle of wine across state lines? Isn't that illegal?
In many cases, it is illegal to ship alcoholic products to recipients in other states. 800wine, however, does not actually ship alcoholic products to recipients; licensed retailers do. Our nationwide network of retailers enables us to have product shipped locally in many cases (often from within the recipient's state). In this way we ensure that all shipments are made legally and in total compliance with the “three-tier” system, in which product flows from the producer to the wholesaler and on to the retailer. At the same time, this shipping system enables us to offer the fastest and lowest cost delivery anywhere. 

How does 800wine ship internationally?
Most of our international shipments are sent automatically to our fulfilling partner in the destination country, who then sends out the product from his or her own inventory. The cost savings that 800wine offers for international shipments are by far the best in the industry. In many cases, the shipping charge for international shipments is just about the same as a standard domestic rate.

For some international orders (like certain wines to Japan), products are actually shipped from the US.  We are able to offer some of the most competitive international shipping rates anywhere.  We occasionally even offer free shipping to Japan! 

Can 800wine ship other things internationally?
Absolutely.  Please click on the International Orders link on our home page to see the great selection of gift baskets we have for other countries.  We have different selections for several countries, including Canada, the UK, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Australia, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, and many more. 

What's the difference between a bottle of wine from your Express Wine Shop and one from your regular wine shop?
In many cases, there is no difference at all.  The reason there can be a difference between the two has to do mainly with the way that they are shipped to you.  Express wine shop orders are fulfilled by local licensed 800wine members in your area; as soon as we receive the order, it is automatically routed to the fulfiller who can most efficiently and quickly fulfill it.  Wine shop products, on the other hand, are generally wines made available to you by select, premium wineries.  When orders for these items come in, the order is routed either to the winery itself or to the facility where the products are stored.  These items can be shipped directly to certain states--making them also suitable for gifts--though to other states they need to be shipped through a licensed wholesaler and retailer, in compliance with beverage alcohol laws governing shipping and delivery of wine.  For more information on delivery times to specific states, please read our shipping and delivery information.

Yes, we do, and our wine club provides a great way to try wonderful wines from around the world. How much do you charge for shipping?
For direct shipments, 800wine's shipping charges are based on standard rates available through national carriers such as UPS or Fedex. Since 800wine's shipments are often intrastate and therefore need to travel relatively short distances, our shipping rates are often significantly lower than you will find elsewhere.

How long will it take for my order to arrive?
Wine products, gift baskets, and other items that can be shipped directly to you generally arrive within 3 to 4 business days of the order, unless express shipping is ordered.  Flowers are generally shipped overnight, though you can specify the exact date of delivery in the shopping cart. 

For wines that need to be sent out on a bulk shipment from California and routed through a wholesaler and a retailer (the WorldShipNet shipping option), delivery takes more time.  The exact amount of time depends on when the order is placed in relation to the bulk shipment (currently there are two bulk shipments per month), but generally wines shipped through WorldShipNet will require from 3 to 5 weeks for delivery.

Do you sell any glassware made with lead crystal?
We sell Riedel glassware and, like most fine crystal, it is made with lead, a chemical known by the state of California to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm.
